Ellin Leonard, Your Conway NH State House Candidate
"Through my varied community service experiences, I understand the balance between finances, cultural life and recreational activities. If elected by you, I will use all that accumulated knowledge to ensure New Hampshire and especially Conway prosper long into the future."
As a New Hampshire native I grew up surrounded by our beautiful lakes and mountains. I know instinctively what makes Conway so special. It has been my home for more than two decades.
I was born and raised in rural NH; In a tiny Newton, NH until 7, then Alton Bay, on Lake Winnipesaukee until I graduated from Alton High School.
Married Life
Later I lived for many years in Portsmouth. My husband and I bought a second home in North Conway in 2004 and in a short time decided to live here.
That was 22 years ago. I worked from home, so I could live anywhere, Dick was semi-retired and worked for the Auto Road. We became involved in our community together and individually.
Dick passed away in fall 2016, I had ‘retried’, and decided to be much more active in NH and specifically Conway and NH Democratic Politics.
Community and Civic Involvement
“Someone’ asked me if I would run for a seat on the Conway Budget Committee. I did, was elected. I was on the Board for seven years. I learned a lot; it was time well spent.
I was a Trustee for the Conway Library for three years.
I was the Chair of the Conway Dem0crats for several years. And did whatever I could to elect Dems in northern Carroll County, and met and got to know many wonderful and good people.
I have been on my Condominium Board for eight plus years as treasurer.
I have been on several community and church boards, some as chair. Many also as Fund Raising Chair.
Working life
I was married very young, but always had a ‘part time job’ saved every penny, for the down payment for our first house. Life has unexpected changes and so at 36 I needed a full time ‘career’ job! I was very fortunate, in that even without a degree I did have some skills and was able to support myself and my two children. In what is called ‘Industrial Sales’, which turned into Medical Sales, which turns out, I was quite good at.
My work experience means that I can listen carefully. I’m good at hearing ‘both sides’ of most situations . Its important to be able to be respectful even in difficult meetings. Let people speak, don’t interrupt (this is hard sometimes). Don’t get angry, look for a resolution.
If elected, my one singular goal is to attend ALL Votes.
